Visualizing Virginia Tech History

If this place could talk, what would it tell us?

That simple question guides everything we do.

We're the Visualizing Virginia Tech History team: a transdisciplinary group of faculty and students using creative technologies to uncover hiddeen layers of our shared past. As the university looks forward to its sesquicentennial in 2022, we're working under the auspices of the Council on Virginia Tech History to explore more than 150 years of Hokie history in 21st-century ways.

Our faculty and students come from across campus: history, computer science, education, visual arts, the libraries, the VT Stories oral history project, even mining and minerals engineering. We combine our expertise, our research methods, and our disciplinary backgrounds to open up deeper understanding of Virginia Tech history.
